I'm so pleased to have been invited back to this terrific event again for 2012. It's a traditional ceilidh to celebrate the arrival of the new year according to the old calendar. There will be dancing, entertainment, a light supper and bar... I just learned about this gig today, so I don't have all the details yet, but will post them as they become available.
Linda will be performing with Simply Burns at this Burns Supper. It's a private event, open to members of the organization, but if membership interests you, then you may want to contact them.
Continuing a four-year tradition, Linda Dewar and Douglas Craik will be playing and singing Christmas music in the coffee shop of the Watermill Bookstore and Gallery, in Aberfeldy. You'll be able to hear the music throughout the store as you browse through the books and CD's on the upper level. There's no charge for this, but let's be real... the nice folks at the Watermill would like you to buy some coffee and maybe a book or two :-)
As a part of the Aberfeldy Christmas Market and tree lighting, Linda and Douglas will be playing in the tourist information centre. It may be cold outside at the market, but we'll be toasty warm indoors, so come in and join us.
The people of Aberfeldy have been given a two-year lease to operate the town hall, and the committee who are in charge of the hall have organized an all-day celebration. During the day there will be workshops, storytelling, and other events. Linda will be perfoming twice in the evening concert- first with Simply Burns, who will do a brief version of their show about Robert Burns, and also as a member of The Shandies, a trio of musicians that also includes Linda Gannell from Edinburgh and Kenny Graham from Crieff.
Every year, Scottish folk singer Nell Hannah invites a few of her friends to put on a concert at her church. Nell will be 92 this year, but she's about 18 in her heart. Linda and her band will be among the performers, along with others including singer/songwriter Ciarran Dorris, accordion virtuoso Yvonne McLeod, John Hanna (Nell's son, all the way from California), and many more.
Linda will be the guest on Ciaran Dorris's weekly show, talking about the experience of being an American musician living and playing in Scotland. As he does with all of his guests, Ciaran will be sending Linda off as to Dorris Island, a small, imaginary Hebridean isle. For her week as a castaway, Linda gets to choose a few items to keep herself occupied - a book, a DVD, three tracks to listen to, and a luxury item. And she also gets to name a dinner guest she'd most like to entertain on the last night of her stay. If you're in Glasgow, tune in to 1530 AM. Simply Burns will be making our first appearance of the new year, and our first full program with the new lineup. There are new songs, new arrangements, new instruments... call the hotel for details.
Togarrach (Linda Dewar, Linda Gannell, Rena Gertz & Kenny Graham) have been invited to play a 20-minute set at the Danny Kyle Open Stage in the Celtic Connections festival. The event is held in the exhibition hall and admission is free, but get there early because it's a popular venue that often has waiting lines. If you can't make it, the show is broadcast live on Celtic Music Radio, 1530 AM in Glasgow and www.celticmusicradio.net in the rest of the world.
TMSA will be offering a full evening of traditional music played by some of Perthshire's best known artists. Tich Frier will headline, with support from John Morran (Deaf Shepherd), Margaret Bennett, Togarrach (including Linda), and a group of Peter Butter's fiddling kids. It's a great deal for the money, it benefits a worthy cause, and you'll have a great time. See you there!!

Togarrach will be competing in the Folk Group category at the Royal National Mod. This year's mod is being held in Caithness.. most Thurso and Wick. We've already had wins at both the Mull and Lochgilphead regional mods. Watch this space to see what results we get at the national.
